Just when we pull off our disappearing act, reality reaches it's ugly self across the Gulf of Mexico and slaps me on the head first thing this morning.
While it's a very pleasant 85 degrees here, it's a "Heat Wave" back home and ... our air conditioner went out.
Our friends Derick and Michelle are sweating profusly as they stay in our house.
Goddess, Winston The Little Gay Dog, and Gypsy, the formerlly gender confused cat are likely not too pleased either.
I feel rotten for all of them.
Making it worse is we're having a great time which exagerates how rotten I feel!
Derick and Michelle are coping as best they can with the help of friends on the island getting a window unit from Sean and Wen.
I text our friend Jody who handles house things for us and is always on the spot.
Jody immediately calls saying he'll handle it.
I'm surprised because I have roaming turned off on my phone so I won't be charged ridiculous international roaming fees but Jody somehow bypasses such things.
I thank God for technology.
I'm also reminded of a time not so technologicall advanced when Tommy and Frank Pearce's very full freezer went out and they discover it when everything's mostly thawed.
Rather than curse and throw the mass quantities of food out, they cook it all and have a party inviting all their friends asking us to bring the drinks.
It was a Hell of a good time and you'd never know that Tommy and Frank a six month supply and a thousand dollars worth of food.
"But you got to have friends," Bette Midler famously sang and she got that right!
Because when reality slaps you in the face, that's what friends are for ... as other famously sang too.
In the meantime, I pray everything back home is resolved quickly while I have a shot of tequilla and take a swim in the ocean.
