It may have been Christmas too but it was really Sarah's day.
For years she had to do what others demanded, traveling her and there to keep her then family happy and living in perfect harmony.
Of course when you give others everything they take it and then expect you to keep on forever more with little thought of giving back!
But yesterday ...
She cooks a traditional Holiday meal the way she wants ... no one looking over her shoulder saying how they do it ... not a special demand for anything ... just her own desires, recreations from the past and new concoctions.
She does let me wash the dishes as she creates.
She even carves the Turkey ... a most moist and delicious one ... for the first time in her life because she wasn't allowed before.
The girls are home ... Chelsea & Sam and Kristen make their way to our home to join Johnny & Judy O and Tim & Jess ... multiple dogs and a cat for a casual and fun Christmas meal.
After everyone leaves, each girl demand Sarah's attention to do hair, play with toys, make plans for our family trip next week.
We snack throughout the evening on rich desserts and Judy O's fantastic home made cheese ball.
The girls eventually go to bed and we sit on the sofa mindlessly watching television.
I'm ready to go to sleep but Sarah's in no hurry as she allows Christmas to linger.
For the first time ever, I think, Christmas is hers.
