Under the Truman

Every time I ride under the Truman Parkway in my hometown of Savannah, Georgia I think ... "I know how to fix that."

What needs fixing is the "community" of homeless people living in tents under a bridge.

Yep!

Thank God for the Government for building bridges so Americans have a place to call home!

A few years ago the City tried to wipe out the "community" with policemen, Bulldozers and police dogs and the area under the Truman was clean ... for a while.

Now it's a much more sanitized homeless "community" living under the bridge.

Worse the "community" has been accepted by the City.

Missionaries deliver food, water and God's love once a week or so.

The police patrol the "community" regularly to ensure the safety of people living under a bridge.

People post pictures on their Facebook page of being brave enough to visit the "community" and pass out Bibles, bottles of water and take group selfies.

It's such a shame.

The fix is pretty easy in concept ... a bit more challenging in practice.

People who wish to help need to move in and change the culture of the "community."

"You know," I imagine someone saying after their acceptance as a member of the community, "it's pretty stupid that we live outside when we can live in a house ... with electricity and running water."

"Not those religious concentration camp homeless shelters but ... home."

If enough people become one with the "community" and change the culture there wouldn't be any tents under the Truman.

Everyone would have agreed with Dorothy ... "There's no place like home" ... and they'd be nothing to look at when I drive pass ... unless the Government run train has me unnecessarily stopped for fifteen minutes.
