Part of the Future

"Hey Mike," John said as he and his wife stumbled into The Breakfast Club this morning. "I haven't seen you in while," he smiled shaking my hand.

He's a commerical realitor and we used to do a lot of business together. I bought a very entrepreneual spirit to homelessness and over the years collected and sold lots of buildings. It was great fun and I liked building or renovating them.

It's one of the things that I miss about what I used to do. I like doing deals. Things that aren't suppose to happen can and its a rush when they do!

Then there's the joy of watching someone who doesn't have a place to live or access to health care move in or get treated for the first time.

It's fun creating something out of nothing ... especially when nobody thinks you have a snowballs chance in hell!

Ted Turner recently said that if you're a betting person, ninety percent of all new ventures fail. So if you bet against them you're going to win ninety percent of the time. It's real easy to be a skeptic about someone else doing something."

Everything I've ever done in life people have lined up to bet against me.

So far they've lost.

So here I go again ... starting something new. I believe in it. I know the people I'm working with are the right people. I believe the wind is in our sails and there's smooth sailing ahead. I understand that God is with us.

Oftentimes, the past gets in your way. For a couple of years, it certainly got in mine.

But I'm a believer in the future. I'm a member of the ten percent who believe that dreams comes true in spite of the things other people say.  I don't know how I know but ... I know.

"If you're not part of the future then get out of the way," says John Mellencamp.

To which I add, "Now! Dammit!"
