Old Ministers and me

I have lots of old minister friends.

Sarah calls them Pastors.

Whatev's!

They're old.

I mean ... we're old.

Well ... not me ... but them.

Bill Berry ... not the former drummer for REM but the other one ... has the best hair ... except it's all grey.

Michael Ruffin looks good in a robe ... in Fitzgerald, Georgia ... where nothing's ever happened ... except Jefferson Davis ... the President of the Confederacy ... was captured 15 miles outside of town.

Mitch Wesley plays bass ... but refuses to share this talent with anybody.

Mitch was recently kicked out of Milledgeville, GA ... no small feat ... and now lives in Athens, GA ... so he won ... regardless of what the Baptists say.

America's Best Minister ... not the most famous ... just the best ... quit his job.

Guy Sayles has beaten cancer so far ... is thin ... has no hair ... looks good ... if I were gay I'd want him.

Samuel Adams couldn't take it any more and fled.

I don't blame him.

I did too.

Church is for crazy people.

I had to get out.

This is my favorite saying about Church ...

"Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet," said Napoleon Bonaparte. "Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."

Yep.

Except ... I'm back in.

Not in a Church but in a bar.

It's pretty cool.

We don't start on time.

Screw up the music.

Occasionally make a point.

But God we enjoy it.

Or maybe it's God we're enjoying.

I have no idea.

I need to ask my friends.

(Thanks to my friend Dr. Michael Ruffin ... for lots!)
